New Obama ad: Romney believes in outsourcing

A new ad from President Obama’s reelection campaign suggests former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney “believes” in outsourcing — part of a series of ads attacking the Republican candidate as an outsourcer.

“What a president believes matters,” the narrator says over shots of the Republican. “Mitt Romney’s companies were pioneers in outsourcing U.S. jobs to low-wage countries. He supports tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.” A shot is shown of a Washington Post article on Bain Capital’s investments in companies that moved jobs overseas
The ad then shifts to images of Obama, and more positive music. “President Obama believes in in-sourcing,” the narrator says. “He fought to save the U.S. auto industry, and favors tax cuts for companies that bring jobs home. Outsourcing versus in-sourcing. It matters.”
The ad is part of a series attacking Romney’s record at Bain Capital. Our Factchecker has deemed many of the Obama campaign claims misleading. The Post article, he notes, “does not say that transfers of U.S. jobs took place while Romney ran the private equity firm.” Obama’s campaign has sparred withFactcheck.org over the same question.
This new ad suggests that Obama has no intention of giving up the outsourcing theme.
According to the Obama campaign, the 30-second spot is airing in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
